This is what I feel like right about now:
I went to bed late. I got up early. The empty house I’m trying to sell is smack dab in the middle of the “extreme danger” area of Irene’s projected path (and it’s not the only one in that path, obviously).
HOWEVER: My children are happily playing outside. The sun is shining and it’s not 100 degrees. Our whole family woke to the beautiful morning in our comfortable beds in a cozy house. We enjoyed breakfast together and have every intention of reconvening for dinner.
All told, our troubles are few, and with so many facing so much more this weekend and beyond, it reminds me that happiness is not always about the temporal conditions of ease and freedom from suffering. It’s about spreading love everywhere you go, and often our greatest opportunities for spreading love arise amidst situations that look anything but happy.
Our prayers go out to everyone squaring up against a storm, whether it be Irene or something else. Whatever today brings, we have the choice to leave better.
