A couple years ago my husband and I bought a set of two candlesticks at a thrift store and put them on the dining room table. We then happened upon a large box of candles at a garage sale. Since then we have lit the candles on the table every evening as we sit down for family dinner, which is pretty much every evening. It’s a small and lovely way to convey to the kids that sitting down with the family for dinner is a special event each and every evening, and they love it.
During Advent we replace the candlesticks with an Advent wreath. We have several other Advent calendars for the kids — a chocolate one, a Christmas tree with a new ornament each day, a Nativity scene with a new piece added each day — but the simple Advent wreath is my favorite. I love greenery in the winter, and I prefer counting down by weeks instead of days (no idea why).
Advent 2. Two more Sunday feasts until He comes.
